Environmental & Sustainability Specialist

Solv has an immediate need for an Environmental & Sustainability Specialist to provide full-time support to a client in Washington, DC.

Solv seeks candidates with experience providing environmental, energy, or sustainability support to government clients; federal recordkeeping and reporting requirements; energy management, including energy and water efficiency strategies; sustainable design and construction; environmental compliance; best practices for industrial, construction, and office operations; and other subject matter expertise.

Professional experience with the Energy Act of 2020, Energy Policy Act of 2005, Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, the Guiding Principles for Sustainable Federal Buildings, and Executive Orders (EO) is highly preferred. An ability to use the Microsoft Office 365 tools, U.S. Department of Energy’s Compliance Tracking System (CTS), and Energy STAR Portfolio Manager is necessary to perform the job.

Candidates must be skilled in technical report writing and have experience developing written reports, training programs, and outreach communications. It is strongly preferred that the candidates have experience in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and Microsoft 365 tools. Strong technical writing, proofreading, data management, quantitative analysis, and data entry skills are required.

Job duties include:

  • Supporting long-term program initiative planning for energy, environmental, and sustainability programs;
  • Assisting with operating the agency’s facilities in a more sustainable manner, such as improving construction and renovation contract specification language, tracking solid waste and recycling data, and identifying opportunities to implement energy and water efficiency measures;
  • Identifying emerging requirements, and implementing new processes within the organization, assist with developing policy, standard operating procedures, tools, and programmatic guidance;
  • Identifying grants, third-party financing, or other incentives for energy and water projects;
  • Working with facilities’ personnel to conduct assessments of progress and determine priority actions for various initiatives;
  • Coordinating with other personnel to ensure implementation of organization-wide energy, environmental, and sustainability programs;
  • Evaluating and advancing opportunities for sourcing clean energy for facilities;
  • Maintaining large datasets, like a Guiding Principles for Sustainable Federal Buildings tracker, and describe key statistics; and
  • Supporting the organization’s response to new requests for government-wide and agency-specific data calls including compiling greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and other metrics.

Ideal candidates will have at least 5 years of experience, and at least one of those years of experience providing energy, environmental, and sustainability services to government clients. Must be a LEED Accredited Professional in Building Design and Construction (LEED BD+C) or LEED Accredited Professional in LEED Operations and Maintenance (LEED O+M), or be willing to obtain either of these certifications. Ideal candidates will have experience working effectively in teams and develop working relationships with other contractors and government personnel to implement energy, environmental, and sustainability initiatives.

A M.S. degree in science, engineering, or a related field is required. Candidates must demonstrate strong analytical, technical writing, and verbal communication skills.
